Do Your Bearings Quit Early? Bearings can be extremely susceptible to stress...especially at high loads, speeds and temperatures. Properly designed, efficient bearings can yield exemplary machinery operation for extended lives. Bearing failure can lead to insidious, slow, or sudden worsening of machinery functioning.
Failures of several types in bearings can be responsible for numerous untimely machinery breakdowns. Fatigue "spalling" results from excessive loading, where small particles of steel flake off, progressively destroying the contact surfaces within the bearing. Wear failures may occur when there is insufficient load on a bearing to keep it operating. Abrasive particles in the lubricant can produce a gradual worsening of machinery vibration characteristics by wear also. "Brinelling" wear can be caused by external vibration. It can eventually lead to fatigue failure. Mounting-induced failures can result in excessive vibration and short fatigue life.
These and other bearing failures can cost your company substantial amounts of time, effort, money, and customer good will.

Development
We can develop handling and installation procedures to ensure that no corrosion or damage occurs to the bearing after receipt and during assembly into your equipment. We can advise what instrumentation should be installed for initial testing to

HERE'S THE MAN BEHIND IT ALL!
George W. Hosang is the Managing Consultant and Owner, with wife Karen, of Alouette Technology, a consulting firm specializing in rolling contact bearing engineering. A graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada and the University of Toronto, he was awarded a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering. While an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force he had full time military flying duties in an all-weather jet fighter interceptor squadron.
In 1965, Mr. Hosang was awarded the prestigious Athlone Fellowship for postgraduate study at the University of Leeds, England and obtained a Master of Science degree in Tribology, the science of friction, wear, lubrication, bearings, and gearing. Leeds University is one of the major sites in the world of this emerging technology.
Mr. Hosang has been a Principal Engineer for Rolls-Royce, General Electric Aero Engines, Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, Solar Turbines Inc., and Sundstrand Corporation where he worked on long-life and all-ceramic bearings for turbine engines.
Alouette Technology was founded in 1995 and has since built a solid reputation as a consulting firm assisting numerous turbomachinery manufacturers.
